Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers was raised on 25 December 1994 as part of Mehran Force and is named after the Sufi Saint “Abdullah Shah Ghazi”. The unit remained employed in District South and West from October 1994 to November 1997. From November 1997 to January 2001, it was tasked to look after District South with a portion of District East as well. On 20 September 2010, it was reorganized as Sector Headquarters with five Wings. Headquarters Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers moved to five different locations before finally settling down at Tariq Community Centre, Jamshed Town Karachi in March 2003. It is performing Internal Security duties with five wings deployed in District South and in some part of District East with Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Clifton, Saddar, Old City, Liyari, Jamshed and Kemari Towns as prominent areas. All important business centers, banks and Karachi Port fall within its jurisdiction. Lyari, being the heart of Karachi, has always been a trouble spot which has effectively been controlled after Karachi Operations.
Role / Tasks
- Assist Police/ civil administration in maintenance of law and order.
- Conduct independent operations as mandated in revised ATA-1997.
