Sachal Rangers was raised at Karachi in May 1992 and is named after the renowned Sufi Saint of Sindh, “Sachal Sarmast”. It initially remained under command Army till 1993 before it formally merged with Mehran Force. In December 1993, Sachal Rangers was given independent responsibility to look after District South Karachi. In 1994, additional responsibility of Western Sector of Karachi was also given comprising District South and portion of Central and West District. It was reorganized as Sector Headquarters on 20 September 2010 with Headquarters at North Nazimabad and five wings for internal security tasks in District Central and District West of Karachi Division. Prominent areas in its area of responsibility are New Karachi, Gulberg Town, North Nazimabad, Liaqatabad, Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) area and Baldia Town.
Role / Tasks
- Assist Police / civil administration in maintenance of law and order in Districts West and Central of Karachi Division.
- Conduct independent operations as mandated in revised ATA-1997.
